Jaana Kokko, Approaches to Geopolitics of Place and Space

Place and space are linked to concerns of political power, geography and cultural diversity. In this course we explore space and place as matter from geopolitical point of view, without forgetting the ecological and feminist perspectives. The course provides a background to approach space and place from a (so called) geopolitical point of view in contemporary art. The course aims to encourage the students to formulate their own research on the geopolitics of place and space. In May the course will continue with a seminar ''As far as I remember'' and excursion to an exhibition 'For Obvious Reasons' in Lappeenranta, Finland, a city near the border of Russia.
